Mighty Fine Pies...And So Much More
Little treasure on the North Fork. The Nofo Pot Pie Country Market in Mattituck calls itself a Grab-n- Go Comfort Food Market - uh yeah. I've passed it a gazillion times and only pulled over after a friend's urging. Thank you friend. We had the pot pie sampler, crab cakes, and raspberry crumb. I'm going back for the coconut cream pie. And the chicken marsala pot pie. And the fresh pasta. Oh and the ice cream, bread, and beautiful salads.— at NoFo Pot Pies .

Muskrat Love
Met this little guy on my walk today. He waddled next to me for a bit and we exchanged glances a couple of times. We came to a crossroad and he turned toward the creek he called home, giving me a last look that said "Aren't you coming?" Until next time...

What is behind this inconspicuous gold door on the second floor of the Sunset Theater? Well we found out last night ! This new found treasure in Westhampton Beach is called the The Sunset Social Club. The second you walk through the gold door at the end of the hallway you are immediately taken back in time. Gettin' Ziggy With It
What happens in Ziggy’s Place stays in Ziggy’s Place! Imagine it’s 1982 and you’re hanging in your friend’s basement with a rock band, bowling alley, full bar, pool table, darts and more! Well that’s what it felt like when we made a visit to Ziggy’s Place last night in Riverhead. I won’t be sharing all the videos . The staff made us feel so welcome like we knew them for years. The IDOLized band rocked the house and made you pull out your 80’s moves on the floor! After you wor

Cut Your Own Tree - Right Here on LI
Cutting down your own holiday tree might be a yearly tradition, or maybe it’s a bucket list item that finally needs to be checked off. Either way, you don’t need to leave LI for the Griswold Family Christmas Tree – there are plenty o’ fields filled with evergreens just waiting to take up residence in your family room . Before you head out, thought I’d share a few tips I grabbed from Bob Vila’s website. Some words of wisdom from an expert could save you some headaches. ·

A Hiking...or a Haunting...We Will Go
In search of a hike out east, my sister and I left our fate in the hands of google. There were many to pick from, but somehow we settled on one in Hampton Bays that looked somewhat interesting since it seemed to be waterfront, and anything that promises a view of the water I'm all in. After meandering through winding roads in unchartered territory (it was populated, but we had never seen the likes of the area) we finally stumbled on the sign for Squiretown Park. It came up o

Rounding the Cranberry Bog
Beautiful day to explore the 1.1-mile loop at the Cranberry Bog (aka Woodull Bog) in Riverhead, sheltered at the crest of the Peconic River. The hiking trails cut through 165-acre wetlands that actually served as the largest cranberry farm on Long Island years ago. There's a picturesque wooden bridge that crosses over the bog as well as pretty views of Sweezey's Pond. Apparently lots of wildlife to be seen, though today most of the animal kingdom was in hiding. A brief histor

Feelin' Crabby? Try Catching a Blue Claw
Crabbing is one of our most memorable family pastimes. We grew up with late-summer crab feasts at the dining room table – we caught them, stored them, prepared them, and ate them. It’s a great way to pass an August day or evening here on the east end. Although crabbing doesn’t require elevated skill levels, it does take patience and a little bit of know how. If you’ve got time on your hands you can set up a crab trap. We have one that’s basically a galvanized wire cube with f

The Art of the Strawberry Search
You may think spending an hour in the strawberry patch searching for a treasure of perfect berries is an easy feat. But I’ve been down that road, or in this case that row, before; and I can share some insights that may prove helpful. Tips & Observations · When you first arrive at the farm, don’t go for the low-hanging fruit. Bypass the crowd bottlenecked near the entrance and make your way to far corner of the patch, an area reserved for serious two-fisted pickers. ·
